Setting and positions

This standard 52-card NLHE cash hand was played and broadcast on 9 August 2024, Day 6 of Triton Cash Game Invitational I in Montenegro. The 10 August organizer report corroborates session rules, not a written history of this particular JJ hand. Blinds were $1,000/$2,000, a $5,000 big-blind ante, and a mandatory $4,000 UTG straddle. Here 1 BB is $2,000. Handz holds A♦ K♦ in the straddle; Tan has J♥ J♠ in UTG+1, with position after the flop. Elton calls A♥ T♦ in the hijack before folding. Starting effective depth is approximately 467 BB, reconstructed from Tan’s 461.5 BB left after opening to 5.5 BB and later HUD readings. The display is rounded to thousands. Viewers know AK; Tan does not.

1BB is $2,000; the straddle is 2BB. Posting order is accounting, not a payment timeline. Blind-seat identities are not confirmed.

Other folds without entering add nothing; no undisplayed individual order or names are invented.

Handz folds and Tan receives his uncalled 230BB back. The displayed 440.5BB includes that wager; the contested pot is 210.5BB, not a called 440.5BB pot or 210.5BB net profit.

1 | Calling in position is not committing JJ

Tan opens to 5.5 BB, Elton calls, and Handz squeezes his 2 BB straddle to 30 BB. Tan adds 24.5 BB, not another 30 BB. After Elton folds, two 30 BB contributions, Elton’s 5.5 BB and 4 BB of blinds and ante form 69.5 BB.

Calling preserves some unpaired broadways and weaker hands while retaining position. A four-bet may remove those hands and concentrate the continuing range around stronger holdings such as QQ+ and AK. Folding is discussable against an exceptionally tight squeeze. Approximately 467 BB effective is not a routine 100 BB stack-off spot; no exact preflop frequency is established here.

2 | A small flop bet offers a price, not a full answer

On 6♥8♥ Q♣, Handz bets 17.5 BB,25.18% of the pot. A call makes 104.5 BB, a static 16.75% threshold. JJ can still beat some unpaired high cards and draws, while Qx, sets and stronger pairs remain possible.

Calling retains weaker bets and the positional advantage. Raising may fold air while receiving action from stronger hands; it needs specific value targets or folds, not a vague desire to protect. Folding can be reasonable under a much tighter range assumption. Future streets prevent this immediate price from proving positive EV by itself.

3 | Ask what the 53 BB turn bet gets paid by

The Q♠ pairs the board. Handz checks first; Tan bets 53 BB into 104.5 BB, about 50.72% pot. Tan’s decision is check or bet, not fold, call or raise.

If TT,99, some high cards and heart draws check-call, betting can gain thin value and charge or deny equity. But Handz may also check Qx,AA or KK. If weaker hands mostly fold and stronger hands continue, checking behind becomes attractive: control the pot, retain weaker holdings and accept a free river.

Compare the risk of a check-raise and the plans for an ace, king, heart or blank river. Handz actually calls; that does not establish a general AK calling frequency. For a replay viewer who also knows Elton folded A♥ T♦, five remaining aces or kings out of 42 unseen cards overtake JJ,11.90%. This exact-hand calculation with the folded cards known is not JJ’s equity against the unknown range or a full multistreet call EV.

4 | River improvement changes the value decision

The J♦ gives Tan jacks full of queens. After another check he bets 230 BB into 210.5 BB,109.26% pot. It is not all-in: approximately 136.5 BB remains. Compared with a smaller bet, it needs stronger paying targets, such as some Qx or bluff-catchers willing to continue.

This full house is not the nuts; QQ and QJ can be stronger. Holding two jacks removes some QJ but also some jack-containing missed draws or bluff candidates. Do not describe blockers as one-directional. Smaller sizing may keep thinner calls; larger sizing earns more against strong continuations. Without weighted ranges and the full tree,230 BB is not proven best.

Handz folds. The displayed 440.5 BB includes the uncalled 230 BB. Returning it leaves a 210.5 BB contested pot, not a called 440.5 BB pot or 210.5 BB net profit. The river improvement cannot retrospectively certify the turn bet.

5 | Reconstruct the line before comparing outputs

In Master Mode, include the open, call, straddle squeeze, Tan’s call, small flop bet, call and turn check. Those actions inform range estimates. Keep position, pot, depth and available sizes fixed before attributing an output difference to the presence of an action line.

For a turn comparison, use Tan after the check: J♥ J♠ on 6♥8♥ Q♣ Q♠,104.5 BB pot,0 to call, approximately 419.5 BB effective, and 53 BB actual bet size. Exclude the future J♦ and do not substitute revealed AK for the unknown range. If table presets, straddles or depth are not supported, disclose the proxy rather than claiming an exact equilibrium solution.

Replay facts, independently reproducible prices and conditional range reasoning are separate. No full solve, real action frequency or App EV is supplied. Depth is reconstructed from the rounded HUD; undisclosed fees are not invented.

Bring the action line into Master Mode

Poker Coach’s Master Mode lets you add the action line. Fix this turn node before comparing check with the actual 53 BB bet. Different nodes or ranges are not a controlled line-versus-no-line experiment.

Hand review questions

Is the JJ turn bet a bluff?

Not simply because JJ is below top pair. It may gain value and protection if worse hands call; if only better hands continue, compare checking again.

What price does Handz face on the turn?

He faces 157.5 BB and calls 53 BB to make 210.5 BB: approximately 25.18%. That is a static price, not a frequency or full multistreet EV.

Why does the ledger end at 210.5 BB rather than 440.5 BB?

The graphic includes Tan’s uncalled 230 BB. After the fold that wager returns to him, leaving 210.5 BB contested.
